Sorry to have disappeared from posting news updates on the site for the last few weeks. I unfortunately became quite ill due to a ruptured blood vessel. And while this did allow me to do an absolutely outstanding impression of Val Kilmer as Doc Holiday, it prevented me from doing much else. However I am feeling much better now and am currently playing catch up with the world.

This year's Free Comic Book Day at Twilight Comics was the best year yet!  I would sincerely like to extend another huge thank you to all the amazing people at the shop who always bring together an excellent event.

I have also completed a few commission pieces since I last posted a news update. Not the least of which was the commission of several portraits of the cast of GamersTable.com in their Star Wars persona's.

As a gentle way to get back into the swing of things, I will be posting these images to the news section over the next several days. But for those of you who can't stand the suspense above is the banner image featuring all the players that I created for their facebook page.

Until tomorrow have a great day!

Sometimes being an artist is ridiculously fun. In regards to my previous post about not being able to show art in progress until it is approved. This is a great example. I am unable to show you the portraits I am currently creating for the Gamerstable.com crew depicting them as Star Wars characters as they aren't done yet and I don't want to spoil the surprise, but I can show you the last ones I drew for them. The rest of the cast is after the jump:

_ I know I have been quite on here for about a month, but that's just because I have been BURIED under work. Now with a Few Days left before Christmas I have a moment to breath and update the site.

First up: This is a poster I put together for a Sketch Comedy Podcast I do artwork for called F'd Up In Middle America. (Link is safe for work, podcast is not) I didnt have a lot of time for this one as it kinda fell on me along with a million other things this month, but I just love the opportunity to play with traditions and put them on their ear. Check out the show, its a version of this story that you have NOT heard before, and a lot of fun to listen to as you wrap your gifts this year.
More stuff coming later today.

Matt Smiths Doctor Eye
Just a quick sketch after viewing tonight's episode of Doctor Who. This wasn't anything I had planned on working on, but the image, and another one just wouldn't leave my minds eye until I put them down somewhere. Although I think I may have a place for the other image... let me sleep on it, and see what I think tomorrow.

So funny story....this was a piece that I created about a year or so ago as an homage to two of my favorite things, Doctor Who, and Dr. Seuss. Specifically the episode "The Empty Child" written by current show runner Steven Moffat.

Earlier this summer, at the North American Discworld Convention Art Show, writer Neil Gaimen, surprised everyone by showing up and signing artwork and prizes to be auctioned for charity later that night. (Incidentally he wrote my favorite episode of the Matt Smith's current run  on the show called "The Doctor's Wife". Yes I am a GEEK. What of it?

Now I am a bit fuzzy on details from this point on...but as I understand it, somehow he saw a small thumbnail of this image and openly professed his love for it to the coordinator of the art show. Apparently it's his favorite episode too. He wanted very much to sign the print and have it auctioned as part of the lot of work that was going up that night. Unfortunately, due to unforeseen circumstances I had been unable to get my work to the show, and the actual print was not there.

Erin Prindiville the show coordinator however promised him a copy, called me, and I mailed her two ASAP. One for Neil, and one for her, as a thank you for not only getting a copy of this to Neil through his entourage, but also for giving me the coolest 6 Degrees of Doctor Who story ever.

Just thought I would share. :)
I hope all is well with you guys, and will be updating the upcoming show calendar this week. Have a great night!

This is the year of the logo, I swear I have made more this year than when I worked at a graphic design house. These are the updated and final logos for  both MediaMacaw.com and Gamerstable.com. I posted earlier versions and sketches a few weeks  back and am only now getting around to posting them here. Its been a very busy summer. More news about the busy stuff later today, in the meantime  check out a few of the latest images!

'Deal With That...'
A lot of people ask me what kind of portraits I do.
"I tell them really cool ones."
I mean sure I can do a stuffy portrait of you in front of a fireplace, holding a book, in oil paint...but lots of people do those.
How many people are willing to draw you as Elvis, a zombie apocalypse survivor,  or a King and Queen? All this week I will be showcasing some of my favorite portraits because, well, why not?
Until tomorrow have a great night!

Timey Wimey
Timey Wimey
This month has been INSANE. From health issues, to a car accident, to all kinds of new amazing projects coming out of my ears, the last three weeks has kept me on my toes to say the least. Unfortunately, it has kept me from posting anything more than the random facebook update at 4 am as well. I am also looking at doing a massive overhaul of the layout of the site to ease some navigation issues and update all the work. I need to get a calendar posted with upcoming events in the next 2 weeks, then there's the blasted chameleon circuit that needs tinkering and the inception assignment that I mus...whoops, said too much. You heard nothing.

Oh, and I am also working on a special thank you for everyone who has helped make this last year so completely brilliant. But more on that tomorrow. If I can get all the kinks worked out.
Gnight,
ArtMonkeyWorld Dave
