Well I wish I could state one clear reason why I have a massive creative outpouring in the fall.

It could be that I love the weather. Or that my favorite holiday is Halloween. Maybe I  just really like the colors of the trees. The crunch of brown leaves under my feet. Or it maybe that the clouds that form in the sky most strongly resemble the ones that swept over the land during Vang Gogh's summers in The Netherlands. It could be a lot of things.

But all that I know for sure is that time of year is when I am at my most creatively buzzed. And I love it.

Ahh...Fall is in the air...
Well actually it was in the air,  and then spring arrived.... and drowned all of the fall leafy smells...and it seems half the city too. Seriously, the streets are starting to look a bit flooded. But my point still stands. Despite the rain, fall has arrived ( or at least its pulling into the station) and this is my favorite time of year.

The above image was a breakthrough piece for me a few years back that I am very proud of. I actually painted this piece after an afternoon of pumpkin picking right before I stood in front of the canvas and put this down in one sitting.(The original is now in a private collection, but prints are available.)

Actually, a lot of my work is actually sketched out in the fall, and then created over the course of the year. The reasons for that I will get into tomorrow. But I usually go through a creative explosion right about now that allows me to fill the sketch book with enough pages to let me to spend the next 10 or 11 months bringing those ideas to life. So trust me when I say,  the next two months are going to be awesome.

So funny story....this was a piece that I created about a year or so ago as an homage to two of my favorite things, Doctor Who, and Dr. Seuss. Specifically the episode "The Empty Child" written by current show runner Steven Moffat.

Earlier this summer, at the North American Discworld Convention Art Show, writer Neil Gaimen, surprised everyone by showing up and signing artwork and prizes to be auctioned for charity later that night. (Incidentally he wrote my favorite episode of the Matt Smith's current run  on the show called "The Doctor's Wife". Yes I am a GEEK. What of it?

Now I am a bit fuzzy on details from this point on...but as I understand it, somehow he saw a small thumbnail of this image and openly professed his love for it to the coordinator of the art show. Apparently it's his favorite episode too. He wanted very much to sign the print and have it auctioned as part of the lot of work that was going up that night. Unfortunately, due to unforeseen circumstances I had been unable to get my work to the show, and the actual print was not there.

Erin Prindiville the show coordinator however promised him a copy, called me, and I mailed her two ASAP. One for Neil, and one for her, as a thank you for not only getting a copy of this to Neil through his entourage, but also for giving me the coolest 6 Degrees of Doctor Who story ever.

Just thought I would share. :)
I hope all is well with you guys, and will be updating the upcoming show calendar this week. Have a great night!

One Last Run
One Last Run
In continuation of the countdown of my favorite images from 2010 I bring you "One Last Run".
This was created at the very beginning of the year as a tribute to the end of David Tennant's run as The Doctor on Doctor Who.
I have created a few paintings of Converse style tennis shoes in the past. This is due mainly to the fact that I have only been wearing those shoes since I was first able to put on shoes.(I am talking Velcro here people) But this one for me nailed the fun of both The Doctor, that show, and what it feels like to wear those shoes.
Oil on Canvas, the original is currently available at Twilight Comics in Shiloh IL. Or pick up a print of it in the store today.

Just a few more images to go before New Years! Have a great night everyone!

'At Peace' Oil Painting of snowy day
Winter is coming. Well, officially anyway. Unofficially it feels like it has been here for week. But this week is the solstice and the official start of the winter season. While I generally dislike extreme cold and grey weather, I must admit that there is something completely peaceful about a new fallen unbroken snow. With that in mind I present "At Peace". Completed in oil on canvas the original currently hangs at FCB Bank in Swansea Illinois, and is available for purchase. If you are interested in the original contact me, and I can give you more details. For an 11x17 print, check out the store here.

The weather reports are saying that more snow and ice is on the way this week. Looks like we may have a white Christmas after all. Its been a while, here's hoping its just enough to be gorgeous, and not a headache. Be safe on those roads guys.
