"At Least I'm Honest" 2005 Digital Image (Not how the below artist statement was made.)
This. This is the Spectacular thing ever. I used a random Artist Statement Generator today and the results were just outstanding. 90% Bullshit, 10% True and 100% Hysterical.

"Artmonkey" David Carr

"Artmonkey" David Carr (°1983, Belleville, United States) makes paintings and drawings. By parodying mass media by exaggerating certain formal aspects inherent to our contemporary society, David Carr touches various overlapping themes and strategies. Several reoccurring subject matter can be recognized, such as the relation with popular culture and media, working with repetition, provocation and the investigation of the process of expectations.

His paintings often refer to pop and mass culture. Using written and drawn symbols, a world where light-heartedness rules and where rules are undermined is created. By using popular themes such as sexuality, family structure and violence, he makes works that can be seen as self-portraits. Sometimes they appear idiosyncratic and quirky, at other times, they seem typical by-products of American superabundance and marketing.

His works establish a link between the landscape’s reality and that imagined by its conceiver. These works focus on concrete questions that determine our existence. By exploring the concept of landscape in a nostalgic way, he investigates the dynamics of landscape, including the manipulation of its effects and the limits of spectacle based on our assumptions of what landscape means to us. Rather than presenting a factual reality, an illusion is fabricated to conjure the realms of our imagination.

His works are saturated with obviousness, mental inertia, clichés and bad jokes. They question the coerciveness that is derived from the more profound meaning and the superficial aesthetic appearance of an image.

"99 Ruff Balloons" 18x24 Oil On Canvas
Don't ask me where the ideas come from. Tis a silly place. For more information check out the Store.

Work continues on the site, and on the current explosion of creativity. I can't stop at this point for fear the ideas will too. In the end, if I leave the world littered with fantastic, beautiful things....I am okay with that.

"Frozen in Time"
This was one of those pieces that I meant to do as a quick 30 minute warm up sketch and 30 min later I had something that would make for a good print.

Work on the site continues, as I try to decide on the right layout for new sections and which sections to trim away. The of course there are the graphics that must be made all while trying to keep commissions, housework and my daughter properly seen to. But I wouldn't have it any other way. Nope. I would rather be busy than not. Any day. Okay I could do with a bit less spit up on my shirt. But other than that....

"True Mechanics of Artificial Intelligence" 12x24 Oil on Canvas
From the bottom of my heart,I want you to know that all of you have made this the absolute best year yet for me. 2012 was fantastic but I have a feeling that 2013 is going to be a great year.

I have some adjustments that are on the way to the site and you are about to see a LOT more fantasy work from me as I have decided that it is where I am happiest.

I am not abandoning the landscapes and still lifes that made me who I am, I am just going to choose those a little more selectively in the future so they are more special than ever before.

So now that we are 3 days into 2013 and its already barreling out the door with all the excitement and intoxicating joy of a little kid on the first day of summer I ask you to hang on tight and pretend its a plan. Things are about to get wild.

Thank you,
ArtMonkeyWorld Dave

"Return to Bad Wolf Bay" Oil on Canvas 11x14
This has been an outstanding year and this month in particular I think I have finally found my niche. Robots and Monsters. Oh don't worry I will still do the graphic design and the occasional "serious" painting. But overall I am happiest when I am painting Robots and Monsters and the response from you all has been AMAZING. I still feel like I haven't quite broken through yet to all the possibilities that lay before me and my anxiousness about that is heavy and heart felt. But the journey of a thousand miles begins with one step, and I feel like someone has grabbed my hand, looked me in the eye, and said, "Run!"

Look for more adjustments to come to the site over the next few weeks. And from the bottom of my heart, Thank you.

Yup I am still here. Been having a rough go of it between the baby, my health and the onset of Holiday art orders. Not that I am complaining. Okay maybe I would like to have a word with someone about  the multitude of faulty parts I was born with. (First person to make a brain joke gets clobbered.)
In the midst of all that I seem to be a glutton for punishment because I have grown tired of the status quo and want, nay NEED to break out of the box. My fantasy art has completely taken over at this point, and its still not enough. I feel as though I am racing against time, and most assuredly losing. I want to have enough time to make enough stuff. I need to get it all out and am finding that the artwork may not be born out of my head or even my heart. It may be bled from the wrist as the brush touches the canvas. Or maybe I just need a cookie.

The hour is short and there is much to do, how much time I have left I wish I knew.

Already practicing her monkey call on Halloween!
Aurora Belle Carr was born on Oct the 21st! There are no words to express my pure and absolute joy. :)

Needless to say I have not gotten much done in the way of painting the last few weeks due to ABSOLUTE exhaustion. ( And coming from an insomniac, that's saying something.) But now that she's getting on a more normal schedule,  I am ramping up the work for the holidays. So keep an eye on the store, and for constant updates follow me on facebook and twitter!

Just to give you a heads up, I am updating the site today so if some pages disappear for a bit "Don't Panic" just grab your trusty towel and know that it will all be fine.
